Abstract

683,740. Vices. PERSSON, H. Feb. 12, 1951, No. 3360/51. Class 61 (ii). A vice for use with a drill press, boring machine &c. comprises vice jaws 18, 22 carried by a long spindle 16 which is slidably and rotatably adjustable between a pair of clamping jaws 14 pivotable on a clamp bolt 4 extending through a hole in the base 2, which may comprise the bed of a machine tool. The bolt 4 which has a nut on the lower end is turned manually to clamp the spindle and clamp jaws in adjusted position. The spindle 16 comprising a hollow tube to which the jaw 18 of the vice is fixed, is provided with a longitudinal slot 28. The movable jaw 22 carries a nut extending into the slot 28 and engaging with the vice screw 30 which extends through the spindle and has an operating handle 32. The gripping faces of the jaws are provided with ledges 24 for supporting the work. The jaws 18, 22 are supported by the base 2 and are dimensioned externally so that the spindle 16 is parallel to the base and spaced therefrom in either of the positions of the jaws shown in Figs. 1 and 5.
