Abstract

604,643. Vices. EVANS & SON (PORTSMOUTH), Ltd., J., and MARSHALL, A. G. Nov. 29, 1945, No. 32321. Addition to 574,859. [Class 61 (ii)] The relatively fixed jaw 1 of a vice which is a modification of that of the parent Specification is mounted on the base 2 by means of a link 10 pivoted to lugs 9 on the jaw 1 and lugs 13 on an upstanding portion 8 of the base 2, so that the link lies forwardly and downwardly. When an object is clamped between the jaws of the vice, the pressure on the jaw 1 is transferred by the link 10 to the lugs 13 and the reaction on the link 10 forces the jaw 1 to tilt forwardly. Springs 16 hold the front of the jaw 1 in the raised position when the vice is not in use.
