Abstract

1,114,831. Clamps. B. W. HARRISON. 10 May, 1965 [12 May, 1964], No. 19694/65. Heading E2B. A clamp for clamping an article at a position comprises a first part 1 having a first jaw and a second part 2 having a second jaw, the parts being connected so as to be movable together to clamp the article at the position in engagement with the jaws, with means to retain the jaws in clamping arrangement and means 8 carried on the first part transversely thereto and having a surface convex to the position. In the Construction shown the part 1 comprises a channel-shaped portion providing a base member 3 and two side members 4 and the jaw comprises two curved arms 6 which extend from one end of the channel shaped portion and which diverge towards their free ends. The means 8 is a rod-like member and as shown there are two such members carried in the channel shaped member between the arms 6 and a pivot 16 which connects the parts together. The arms 6 and the members 8 are covered by resilient material 25. The second part 2 has an end portion 11 also covered by resilient material 25 and this portion 11 provides the other jaw of the clamp. The means for retaining the two parts in clamping engagement comprises a threaded rod 23 which is in threaded engagement with trunnions 18, 21 carried by the parts 1, 2, the trunnions having threads of opposite hand and the parts of the rod engaged by them being correspondingly threaded. The rod 23 has a knurled head 24 or alternatively a head with a socket for engagement by a key. The base member 3 has a handle or support arm 5. In a modification the rod 23 and the trunnions are replaced by a cam or by a spring.
