Abstract
627,234. Drying wallpaper. BURGESS, A. F. (United Wallpaper, Inc.). Oct. 8, 1946, No. 30010. [Class 34(i)] Wallpaper 1 is dried in direct association with open gas flames from burners 4 arranged in a hood 12 above a table 8. The solvent is heated sufficiently to continue evaporation in association with heated gases from the combustion chamber, whilst the web is traversed under a hood 20, the products of combustion being drawn therealong by a fan 25. The solvent thus released is exhausted by the fan 25, the end of the hood 20 being partially sealed by an adjustable blade 44. The web is given a final heat treatment by unsaturated heated gases from the combustion hood 12 conveyed by a fan 18 via a duct 17 to the hood 30 from whence it issues through louvres 31 against the web. The apparatus thus comprises three sections (a) drying in contact with open flames; (b) further drying in contact with the heated combustion gases drawn along the hood 20; (c) a final treatment with fresh heated combustion products from the hood 30.
