Abstract
614,974. Drying coated tape. JENNINGS, H. W. K. (Sturtevant Co., B.F.). July 25, 1946, No. 22186. [Class 34(i)] Tape; 5 with its upper side coated with adhesive, passes through chamber 10 containing infra-red lamps 13, the major portion of the heat thereby being applied to the uncoated side. Hood 14 containing baffles 15 has outlet end 16 connected to exhaust fan 17 which draws air into the chamber through heaters 20. The heated air passes over the upper surface of the tape, removing solvent vapours therefrom in addition to aiding the drying, and is exhausted. The material is then led to chambers 11 and 12 containing progressively fewer lamps, having a plenum chamber 22 with air inlet 23 connected to fan 25 drawing air through heaters 28 via duct 27 leading to outlet 26 above the material. Heated air is forced through perforated wall 21, over the material effecting further drying.
