Abstract
617,280. Paper-making machines. HEYS, R. C. July 22, 1946, No. 21764. [Class 96] A paper-making machine has an endless felt 15 which prevents the wet web 13, transferred from the wire 10, from adhering to the first press roll 17 of two or more such rolls 17, 18, resting on a suction roll 16 having a suction compartment 36, 37, for each press roll. The felt 15 may pass from the bite of roll 17 to the bite of roll 18 or any subsequent press roll, and it may carry the web from the wire to the bite of roll 17. A blowing compartment 38 for high velocity air as described in Specification 531,879, may be added and compartments 36, 37 and 38 may be contiguous. The press rolls themselves may have suction boxes as described in Specification 457,858. A bottom felt 30 may pass over a small jockey roller placed above the suction roll 16 and between the rolls 17, 18. Specification 458,758 also is referred to.
