Abstract

881,688. Paper-making machines. BELOIT IRON WORKS. May 2, 1960 [Sept. 21, 1959], No. 15391/60. Class 96. In a machine which includes a travelling forming wire supported on a table roll 7, a deflector 27 is positioned after the roll, in the direction of wire movement. and has an upper surface facing the wire with a deflector baffle 29 extending downwardly therefrom to form a drainage channel between the roll and the baffle. The upper surface of the deflector may be parallel to the wire or may converge slightly in the direction of movement. As shown, a second deflector 28 is connected to a baffle 32. The baffles are interconnected at transverse intervals by longitudinal plates 42 which also carry a baffle 31 to direct water removed by a doctor 33 which is spaced slightly from the roll 7. The baffle assembly may be longitudinally adjustable to control the width of the channel between the roll and the baffle 27 and hence the suction effect of the nip 38 on the stock on the wire. Similar baffle assemblies associated with succeeding table rolls all drain into a tray 15.
