Abstract
<PICT:0614978/IV(a)/1> <PICT:0614978/IV(a)/2> An arrangement for preventing slipping of artificial filaments, yarns, threads, ribbons and the like when under tension on advancing rolls comprises a roll 2 positively driven about a fixed axis, a pinch roll 1 in contact therewith, and freely rotatable about an axis parallel with that of the driven roll, on the free end of an arm 3 which is pivoted at its opposite end, the pivot being so located that the obtuse angle a formed by the line joining the centres of the two rolls when in operative contacting position, and the line joining the centre of the pinch roll and the pivot point of the arm 3 is not less than 165 degrees and less than 180 degrees. The filament or the like is so arranged that it passes between the rollers, and that its tension tends to force them into contact. One of the rollers, preferably the pinch roller, may be surfaced with rubber, leather or cork; or both rollers may be steel surfaced, the ends of one of them being surrounded by bands of resilient material such as indiarubber, of slightly larger diameter than the roll.
