Abstract

A device for drawing yarn &c. between a driven feed roll 2, Fig. 1, and drawing-means, not shown, driven faster than the feed-roll, comprises a freely-rotatable pressure-roll 16 with its axis parallel to that of feed-roll and mounted on a pivoted arm 4 for movement into and out of contact with the feeding roll, and which is yieldingly urged against the feed roll, and a guide 19 having a circular guide <PICT:0907904/IV(a)/1> <PICT:0907904/IV(a)/2> surface, mounted with the centre of the surface on the pivotal axis of the arm, which enables the yarn to be passed at least twice around the pressure-roll and through the nip between the feed and pressure rolls and then to the drawing-means, whereby pressure is applied to two stretches of yarn to prevent it slipping on the feed roll. The arm 4, Fig. 2, has a bearing-boss 5 on a stud 6; this has a reduced portion 7 snugly fitting into a beam 3 where it is held by a nut 8. The roll 16 is pressed into engagement with the feed roll by the free end 12 of a spring 11 bearing on a stud 13 carried by arm 4; the spring is stressed by rotating a collar 9 on stud 6, the collar being bored to secure the other end 15 of the spring and being locked in desired position by a grub-screw 10. To eliminate wear on the rolls 2, 16 the guide 19 is traversed; to this end it is secured to a rod 17 terminating in a block 23 with a groove 28 engaged by a cam 26 rotated by a shaft 27, a spring 25 being provided. For threading-up, roller 16 is lifted by a handle on arm 4 against the force of spring 11 so that stud 13 is lifted to a position where it is held by a spring catch 30 on beam 3. The thread passes from a supply roll, not shown, around a groove in guide 19 to take a half-turn around roller 16 and thence passes to the nip between rollers 2, 16; it then travels back to a second groove in the guide, takes a second half-turn around roller 16, then passes to the nip and is finally wound on a drawing-roller, not shown, which is driven faster than roll 2.
