Abstract

<PICT:0776206/III/1> <PICT:0776206/III/2> A machine for coating with liquid such as gum or lacquer in which the coating liquid is retained in the nip formed by two rollers and is transferred to a sheet by a coating roller tangential to one of the other rollers is characterized in the coating roller having a completely cylindrical surface for continuous coating or supporting elements to produce strip or pattern coating. The liquid is fed in the nip between punch rollers 2, 3 which are mounted on pivoted levers 6 adjustable by a screw 7. The liquid is applied to the surface of an application roller 1. The sheets to be coated are fed between rollers 11 by a reciprocating device 9 mounted on a rocker 10. The rollers 11 feed the sheets over a roller 12 mounted on pivoted levers 14 and brought into engagement with the roller 1 by a cam 15. The surface of the roller may be used for coating the sheets or for strip coating, rubber rings may be positioned on the surface the nip being moved to an out-of-use position at the ends of the roller when not required. For pattern coating, a flexible sleeve 18, having profile elements 17 is secured to the roller 1 by end clamp bars 19, one bar having a hook engaging a pin at each end of the roller, and the other bar having a spring 22 secured to the hook or other bar. The speed of the rollers 11 and 12 may be varied by suitable gearing to be the same as the peripheral speed of the roller 1.
