Abstract

596,443. Feeding webs. TOOTAL BROADHURST LEE CO., Ltd., and NIELD, L. C. March 2, 1945, No. 5206. [Class 100 (i)] A device for guiding webs transversely to a stentering or like machine of the kind described in Specification 542,323 in which narrow guide rollers 8, Fig, 3, engaging the edges of the web 1 are mounted in bearings carried by a vertical pivot 12 which is caused to rotate in order to correct web deviations under control of a feeler 25 arranged to engage the edge of.the web just prior to passing around a guide roller 8, is so constructed that the rollers 8 engage the web by friction only. The surface 9 of the rollers may may be of metal such as used for carding cloth, fibre bristles, felt, rubber, emery cloth, synthetic resin or moulded plastic. The web may be pressed against the rollers 8 by a series of small rollers or as shown in Fig. 6, the rollers 8 may be replaced by a friction band 37 mounted on rollers 38 carried by a frame 41 which is swivelled about a.pivot 42 controlled similarly to the pivot 12. A friction band 39 presses the web into contact with the band 37. The web is finally fed by a wheel 31 with pins which are projected by a cam to transfer the web to the stentering chains, which may be driven at a slower speed than the feed of the web.
