Class 120(3) [Also in Group VIII] An apparatus for shrinking textile fabrics and yarn comprises an endless flexible and elastic band 10, supported in tension by two rollers 4 and 5, which are positively driven at different peripheral speeds, so that the tension of the band is increased around the roller 4 having the higher peripheral speed and is decreased at the point where it leaves this roller, and a press block 18 contacting the band along a certain distance on both sides of that point, so that a textile fabric 16 or yarn delivered to the section of the band under increased tension and introduced into the nip between this section and the press block 18, is shrunk upon the relaxation of the band. The press block 18 may be heated, as by an electrical element. It is formed with guides engaging slots 20 in the side plates 9 of the machine. The rollers 4 and 5 are driven through a known type of variable gear, the final drive to the shaft 7 of the roller 5 being' by a chain and sprockets. In order, to counteract a tendency of the belt 10 to move sideways, the shaft 7 may be made tiltable, being mounted in spherical bearings, that at one end being inserted in a block 23, sliding in a frame 24 under the control of a threaded sleeve 27 which may be rotated in either direction by a motor 25, as determined by relays operated by feeler members which are contacted by the edges of the band.
