Abstract
818,012. Crimping yarns twist tubes. SCRAGG & SONS Ltd., E. July 22, 1957 [Sept. 18, 1956], No. 28429/56. Classes 120(2) and 120(3) Apparatus for applying false-twist to a synthetic thermoplastic e.g. nylon, yarn or single filament comprises a rotatable sleeve with a lining of material having a high coefficient of friction with respect to the yarn e.g. rubber, and having a convex inner surface, and means for advancing the yarn and holding it under tension against the convex surface. In a crimping process, yarn 23 advanced by rollers 19, 20 and 21, 22, passes through a heater 18, then through and in contact with a lining 28 of a sleeve 24 which is rotated by a belt 27 to impart rotation (and therefore false-twist) to the yarn. The sleeve is carried in bearings 25 in a bracket 26 which is swingable on a pivoted arm (not shown) to enable the sleeve to be engaged in, and disengaged from, driving contact with the belt 27.
