Abstract
586,874. Tanning liquors. WALKER & SONS, Ltd., W., BURTON, D., HARRISON, J. M., HAUSMANN, F., and MONK, W. H. June 21, 1944, No. 11762. [Class 76] Tanning liquors for the production of heat resistant leather are prepared by reducing an acid solution containing chromic acid with an excess of a vegetable tannin extract in liquid form at an elevated temperature, e.g., 85‹C. Solutions of sodium and potassium dichromates acidified with organic or inorganic acids may be used and the vegetable tannin is preferably of the depside or diphenylmethylolid type, e.g., myrabolans. A further treatment with a vegetable tannin extract may precede or follow tanning with the liquors prepared as above, and the finished leather may be treated with synthetic resins as described in Specification 580,121. Specification 131,772, [Class 76], is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
