Abstract
Chloral is prepared by continuously adding chloral alcoholate to strong sulphuric acid at a temperature above the boiling point of chloral and condensing the choral vapours formed. In the example, chloral is supplied to sulphuric acid (S.G. 1.6) at a temperature of about 115 DEG C., the acid strength being maintained by the addition of concentrated sulphuric acid.
