Abstract

Adermine (Vitamin B6) is prepared from 2-methyl - 3-carbalkoxyamino - 4 - phenoxymethyl-5-hydroxymethylpyridine by treatment with hydrochloric acid followed by diazotization and heating of the intermediate product so produced. The preferred compound yielding nitrous acid which is used in the diazotization is silver nitrite. In an example the parent material specified above is treated with 2.5 per cent aqueous hydrochloric acid in a pressure vessel at 180 DEG C. for several hours. Silver nitrite is added and the solution heated to 80 DEG C.
