Abstract
Sulphanilylguanidines are prepared by subjecting an acylsulphanilylguanidine such as N4-acetylsulphanilylguanidine to hydrolysis in an aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide at a temperature within the range 50-100 DEG C., using an amount of alkali corresponding to 50-100 parts by weight of alkali per 100 parts by weight of acylsulphanilylguanidine. It is stated that in the operation of the process of this invention temperature control is important, and the preferred temperature range is 65-85 DEG C. The control of the amount of alkali is also an important feature. Examples are given of the hydrolysis of N4-acetylsulphanilylguanidine under the above conditions, using sodium hydroxide as the hydrolysing agent.
