586,043. Electric lamps. HANOVIA, Ltd., KOLBERT, J. W., and BRENCH, G. W. July 8, 1944, No. 13088. [Classes 75 (ii), 75 (iii) and 75 (iv)] An ultra-violet radiator comprises an out. wardly flaring cowl made in three parts 12A, 12B, 12C, a centrally apertured resilient parabolic reflector 24 secured at its periphery to the cowl by pins 23, a cup 9 secured to the upper part of the cowl by screws 11 and carrying pins 10 to engage with a connector to the electric supply, a strip-metal rectangular strap 7 carrying a starting transformer 8 and a spring-pressed porcelain socket 4, a guide 16 for the strap 7, and a plug 2 supporting a U-shaped arc tube 7, and provided with flat contact pins engaging holes in the socket 4, a portion 3 of the lower surface of the plug being coned to engage a conical flange 28 on the reflector so as to centralise the radiator unit in the reflector. The cowl is-adjustably supported in a carrier 29 by friction-clamps 34, 35 which may be tightened by a bolt 32 and handscrew 33. The cowl is formed with ventilating apertures and the reflector may be formed with ribs 27 to increase rigidity.
