Abstract
576,504. Furnace grates. SCOTT, F. P. D., and PRIOR STOKERS, Ltd. Oct. 9, 1944, No. 18627/43. [Class 51 (i)] [Also in Group XXX] In an underfeed furnace grate of the kind described in Specification 551,984 the feed screw 1 tapers down towards the front end which is extended forwardly under the hollow member 5 into a bearing 12 and is formed, between the main thread and the bearing surface 15, with a reverse thread 14 of small diameter. Any fines which penetrate past the surface 15 are fed out at the front end of the bearing or through an aperture provided for the purpose by a thread 16 of the same hand as the main thread 1. The feed screw is offset towards the side 4 of the grate where the coarser fuel tends to predominate, while the air-supply duct 11 delivers to the plenum space 7 at the fines side 3 where the resistance of the fuel bed tends to be greater.
