Abstract

717,178. Feeding fuel to furnaces. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. Feb. 27, 1953 [Feb. 27. 1952], No. 5197/52. Class 51 (1) A furnace is provided with a spreader stoker which projects fuel towards the back of the furnace chamber, a grate which moves from front to rear and means which deliver to the grate forwardly of the rear wall of the furnace chamber particles that fall adjacent the said rear wall. As. shown in Fig. 3 a shield 47 extends downwardly in front of the rear arch and below the shield is an air pipe 54 provided with an inwardly-extending ledge 55. Air from the pipe is blown over the ledge through apertures in the pipe so that particles falling over the shield are blown forwardly into the furnace chamber. Specification 717,176 is referred to.
