Abstract
568,165. Furnace grates. BENNIS COMBUSTION, Ltd., and BENNIS, A.W. Oct. 7, 1943, No. 16420. [Class 51 (i)] [Also in Group XXX] A furnace grate comprises an underfed retort or firepot A disposed at the rear end of the main grate which consists of bars F supported in reciprocating troughs P and serves to carry the partly coked and incandescent fuel from the retort A towards the front of the grate where the ashes are discharged on to a removal conveyer G. Fuel is fed to the retort A from a hopper C by a plate J reciprocated in a trough H below the grate F, the front of the hopper C being sealed by a hihged plate K and an adjustable plate L being provided to regulate the depth of fuel on the feeder J. Air is supplied to the upper end of the retort A through apertures D communicating with the space E<1> to which air passes through a duct E below the feed trough H. The troughs P are reciprocated on a supporting plate O formed with apertures R with which openings P<1> in the bottoms of the troughs register at intervals to allow the riddlings which fall between the bars F to pass into the feed trough H.
