Abstract

494,120. Grates. VARMO SOC. ANON. June 4, 1937, No. 15551. Convention date, June 9, 1936. [Class 51 (i)] Fuel is fed by gravity from a hopper 2 on to a fixed grate 1 arranged at an angle to the horizontal which is slightly less than the angle which would allow the fuel to slide by gravity and is caused to slide down the grate in a single mass by a pusher 5 arranged at the upper end of the grate. When the angle of slip for a particular fuel is 21‹ the grate is inclined at 18 or 19‹, and when the angle of slip is 25 or 26‹ the inclination of the grate is 23 or 24‹. The amount of fuel fed to the grate is regulated by a slide on the hopper and the amount of ash discharged at the lower end of the grate is regulated by an adjustable barrier 14 pivoted at 15. The pusher 5 is reciprocated by a lever 7 connected to a link 8, one end of which is connected adjustably to a crank 9 so that the stroke of the pusher 5 is also adjustable. The grate is water-cooled and provided with openings which increase in number or length, or in both number and length towards the hopper.
