Coking-chambers; fuel, feeding.-In a furnace of the kind provided with a coking chamber arranged in the arch or crown and delivering the coked fuel on to the grate, a coking-chamber E Fig. 1, with an inclined floor F on to which fuel is fed from a hopper G controlled by a slide L is arranged in the crown of the furnace A. An endless chain N<1> provided with scrapers M moves the fuel over the floor and on to the grate G. Gases of distillation may be led through the duct J to the ash-pit. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the fuel is fed from the hopper G by one or more screws Q into one or more rotary inclined cylinders 0 each mounted on a shaft P. The gases of distillation are led away through the duct J.
