Abstract
696,497. Underfeed stokers. MIRRLEES WATSON CO., Ltd., and DAY, C. C. Oct. 29, 1951 (Nov. 11, 1950], No. 27594/50. Class 51(i) In a mechanical coke or other fuel stoker wherein the fuel is fed from a hopper to a furnace, such as an under-fed furnace, by means of a feed worm rotated in the hopper base and extending into the retort or furnace base the latter is lined at its floor as well as its sides with material which is renewable. As shown, Figs. 1, 2, the bottom, side walls and end wall 3, 4, 5, of the base of an under-fed furnace are lined with renewable lining tiles 6, 7, 8, respectively, fuel being conveyed from a hopper (not shown) by a feed screw 11 through a feed trough 2 to the base from whence it is forced upwardly to the furnace grate through a tuyere frame 10. The tiles may be of iron, hydraulic cement, ceramic or stone and may be flat or of channel or U-shape. In a modification, Fig. 4 the lining 13 is of refractory, cast or moulded in the base.
