Abstract
609,836. Furnaces. VICARD, P. G. Feb. 28, 1946, No. 6276. Convention date, June 29, 1944. [Class 51(i)] In a furnace, fuel gravitates from a supply hopper over an inclined grate which is supplied, adjacent to the hopper. with returned combustion products tc dry the fuel and tc form a barrier between the hopper and the burning fuel on the grate, the remainder of the grate being supplied with air and water converted into vapour by admixture with returned combustion products. A fan 7 delivers combustion products partly to the chimney flue 8 and partly to the blowing- chamber 9 at the underside of the grate 2, and. the chamber 11 into which a water spray 12 is directed. The mixture of combustion products, water vapour and primary air is delivered to the remainder of the grate 2. The air may be drawn into the chamber 11 by the suction of the fan 7, but, if a thick fuel bed imposes excessive resistance, a fan 16 is provided to supply air positively. Secondary air may be supplied through a passage 4.
