Abstract
562,337. Compound fabrics. STREET, W.O., SHAKESBY, L., BURY FELT MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Dec. 14, 1942, No. 17735. [Classes 42 (ii) and 140] [Also in Group XXIX] In a liquid container for aircraft &c. with a protective covering secured thereto and comprising one or more layers of swellable rubber or rubber-like material and one or more layers of wood felt, said felt has one or more layers of woven reinforcing material incorporated in its structure. The woven material may be introduced as an open-weave material, preferably about ten threads per inch, which may be of worsted yarn with a mesh about ten threads to the inch, the material being contracted to a close-weave during the manufacture of the felt, alternatively an unmilled cloth may be used of the same wool as that used for the felt. Layers of felt on opposite sides of the woven material, or on opposite sides of a layer of rubber, may have their fibres substantially parallel or relatively inclined. The rubber may be vulcanised to the felt or secured thereto by adhesive. An outer cover of canvas &c. may be provided.
