Abstract

555,607. Liquid-fuel burners. STAFF, L. O., BELAIEFF, J. F., DELANEY, C. T., and GALLAY, Ltd. Feb. 24, 1942, No. 2417. [Class 75 (i)] Liquid fuel discharged under pressure from a jet 4 mixes with air entering a surrounding tube 3 through apertures 8 and is discharged as spray through an orifice 7 into a "pre-combustion space" formed between a centrally-apertured deflector plate 15 and a baffle plate 14 carried by tubes 13 secured to a plate 1 surrounding the top of tube 3. The spray burns partially with air passing through holes 12 in the plate 1 and the flames rise in a casing 16 where complete combustion occurs with air issuing through holes 13<SP>1</SP> in the upper parts of the tubes 13. A housing 2 surrounding the tube 3 is formed with air inlets 10 and a drain hole 11. The fuel is supplied to the jet 4 through a tube 20 containing closely arranged baffle plates 21 provided with staggered holes 22 to enable the use of a jet of relatively large bore.
