Abstract

656,717. Liquid fuel burners. LUCAS, Ltd., J. Jan. 1, 1949, No. 24. [Class 75(i)] A liquid fuel burner more particularly for use in the combustion chamber of a jet engine comprises a central air tube b extending from an unrestricted aperture in a base plate d, a plurality of primary combustion tubes d arranged around the central air tube and connected thereto by radial air tubes c, fuel-injection nozzles e at the ends of the combustion tubes d remote from the base plate a and air baffles g associated with apertures f in the base plate opposite the open ends of the combustion tubes. Additional radial air tubes h restricted at one or both ends may connect the central air tube to the combustion tubes near the open ends of the latter. The baffles g which may be perforated serve to divert gases issuing from the combustion tubes and air entering at the apertures f into the main combustion chamber of the engine. Fuel is supplied through a helical vaporizing tube i surrounding the burner and terminating in a chamber j on the end of the central air tube and from which individual supply tubes k radiate to the nozzles.
