Abstract
553,794. Pipe joints. BRITISH ERMETO CORPORATION, Ltd., and SUTHERLAND, A. G. B. Dec. 1, 1941, No. 15444. [Class 99 (i)] . A resilient coupling-member for connecting one pipe to another or to a fluid container comprises two axially-displaced members 1, 2 with an interposed hollow resilient member 10 bonded thereto, the members 1, 2 being adapted to engage the pipe end or fluid container without the necessity of forming flanges thereon. Fig. 1 shows the members 1, 2 screwed at 3 for engagement with caps 5, 6 which compress packing 9 surrounding the pipes 7, 8 into conical mouths 4 on the members 1, 2. In a modification, the caps compress ends on the pipes against an " olive " interposed between the pipe ends and the conical mouths 4. One of the members 1, 2 may be flanged for bolting to the wall of a tank. In elbow, T, or X couplings, resilient members 10 may be provided in each arm of the coupling or at the bend. The member 10 is preferably rubber or synthetic rubber, bonded by vulcanizing.
