Abstract

810,400. Pipe joints. RESISTOFLEX CORPORATION. Jan. 23, 1957 [Feb. 2, 1956], No. 2492/57. Class 99(1). A coupling for a hose having a thermoplastic inner tube 11, Fig. 1, e.g. of polytetrafluoroethylene, with an outer reinforcing cover 12, e.g. of wire braid, comprises a flanged sleeve 18 disposed between the cover and inner tube with the end of the tube flared outwardly over the face of the flange 18 so as to be compressed between the flange and a mating part secured thereto. In Fig. 1, the flared ends of the inner tubes of two coupled hoses are compressed together by the flanged sleeves 18, 22. The flange 18 is integral with its sleeve portion 14 to which the outer cover is secured by a hose clip 16 whilst the flange 22 is screwed to its sleeve portion 21 to which the outer cover is secured by a radially contracted sleeve 25 integral with or attached to sleeve 21. The part 20 of the face of flange 18 is serrated to grip the end of the tube whilst the corresponding face of flange 22 is provided with a rib 26. If the material of the inner tube 11 is subject to cold flow under pressure, springs may be provided on the bolts 19. In a modification the flanges 18, 22, are clamped together by a screw and nut connecting device and in Fig. 4, the face of flange 45 is inclined to force the end of the tube 11 against the correspondingly inclined nipple 39 of a tank having a glass lining 41.
