[Class 74 (ii)] Safety mechanism is provided in a straight - bar machine for preventing the catch bar falling into operative position before the draw mechanism has completed its motion. Means may also be provided for disconnecting the drive of the machine if the timing of the draw mechanism becomes incorrectly adjusted. An arm A is secured to the shaft B controlling the rising and falling of the catch-bar B<SP>1</SP> and supports a finger C and a catch D in the form of a bell-crank lever operated by a cam E on the slur box tie bar F. The cam is so disposed on the bar F that at the commencement of the draw it moves iinto engagement with the free end of the lever D and holds it in operative position so the shaft B is controlled by the arm A until the draw is completed. The machine drive is disconnected by a spring actuated plunger O connected to a control rod P and normally held against the action of the spring by a catch R<SP>1</SP>. The catch is moved by a second cam S on the tie bar F to release the plunger O if the timing of the draw mechanism becomes incorrectly adjusted.
