Abstract
611,534. Knitting-machines. HEMPHILL CO. Feb. 28, 1946, No. 6252. Convention date, March 20, 1945. [Class 74(ii)] The tail 8 of a pivoted yarn take-up lever 1 extends beyond the pivot 5 and is engaged by a pivoted arm 9 that is controlled by a spring 23 and also by a pattern drum cam 15 which, by engagement with a projection 14, renders the arm 9 inoperable to swing the take-up arm 1 upwardly. When the lever 1 is raised by the arm 9 under the action of the spring 23 the point of engagement of the arm 9 with the tail 8 moves away from the pivot 5 to increase the effective leverage and thereby maintain or increase the tension on the yarn. The arm 9 is L-shape and is pivoted at 12. The spring is attached at the bend 22 of the arm, the tail engaging end of which is formed with an eye 10 through which the tail 8 passes. A yarn trapping device, comprising a movable jaw 35 and a fixed jaw 36, is provided, the movable jaw being attached to the yarn lever so that when the lever is raised above a predetermined height the jaws engage the yarn and prevent further delivery.
