Abstract
642,154. Knitting machines. TOONE (NOTTINGHAM), Ltd., B., and ALLEN, T. L. Oct. 11, 1947, No. 27345. [Class 74 (ii)] A stop motion for a circular machine comprises a feeler 3 positioned adjacent the needles and which is engaged by the latches of the needles when a yarn breakage occurs due to the failure of a needle loop to hold the latch down and clear of the feeler. A weight 1 slidable in a sleeve 2 is provided with a circumferential groove 11 which is engaged by the opposite end of the feeler 3 and retained in a raised position. Movement of the feeler by the needles disengages it from the weight which falls into contact with a lever 12 to operate a suitable stop mechanism. A projection 18 is provided on the feeler 3 and is engaged by a peg 17 on the weight 1 so that the feeler is maintained in a deflected position once it has been engaged by a needle latch. A spring 20 urges the feeler into its operative position. A latch opener 16 is positioned in front of the feeler 3 and serves to open the latches during the initial courses of knitting and a member 15 is associated with the latch opener to maintain the latches in an open position to avoid engagement with the feeler during these courses.
