To disengage welt hooks 5 from the fabric, ledges 27 on levers 8 engage pegs 4 of the welt bar 3 and lift it up the clefts 7 of forked levers 6 so that continued production of fabric swings the welt bar about the pegs 4 until the welt hooks 5 point downwardly and forwardly, Fig. 4. Further to ensure disengagement, the levers 8 may then be lowered until the welt bar engages guide rails 18 by a shoulder 17 and rolls further about it in the unhooking direction, coming to rest upside down on the guide rails. To right the welt bar, it may again be raised by the levers 8 when, its centre of gravity being suitably positioned, it rests on the levers with the welt hooks pointing downwardly and towards the needles and, on the levers being again lowered, a second shoulder 37 engages the guide rails, so that the welt bar rolls about that shoulder to come to rest right way up. The forked levers 6 are located, with the pegs 4 above the ledges 27, by co-operation of a catch 28 with a notch 29 in a collar on rock shaft 30 operating the levers 6. A second notch 29 may be provided to prevent further rocking of shaft 30 at appropriate time, to take the welt hook pull off the fabric and a hand lever 31 may be provided for turning the shaft. Stops 9, 91 on the levers 8 may be used to control retraction and advance of the welt bar.
