Abstract

482,055. Knitting. BLACKBURN & SONS, Ltd., G., START, H. W., and START, E. Nov. 21, 1936, No. 31896. [Class 74 (ii)] Automatic means for adjusting the pattern chain of a straight-bar machine in step with the other moving part comprise a spring actuated bolt A, which when projected puts the chain-advancing mechanism out of action and a latch lever G, controlled by pilot studs H<1> on the chain H to hold the bolt withdrawn; an arm J connected to the draw-bar may also hold the bolt out of action. The bolt A, when slid to the right in its bearing B intercepts one arm of a cam lever D. The lever D, when free of the bolt A, is moved by a cam M<1> and by means of a lever E and pawl E<1> feeds the pattern chain H forward. The studs H<1> are mounted in advance of those studs which control the adjustments necessary to produce full fashioned garments automatically. Just before the machine starts to fashion, a stud H<1> arrives under the latch lever G and lifts it out of engagement with a collar A<3> on the bolt A, which is thus free to slide under the influence of a spring, unless otherwise held back. If the draw-bar is at the far end of its traverse the bolt will be held back bv an arm J attached to the bolt and connected by a cable or link to the draw-bar. The amount of slack or lost motion in the connections is such that the draw-bar moves the arm J, only at the end of its traverse. In this case the bolt is drawn back or held back by the engagement of a roller A<2> with a cam J<1> on the bearing B. Should the pattern chain be out of step with the other moving parts, the draw-bar will not be at the end of its traverse when the stud H arrives under the lever G. In this case the bolt A is tripped and the advance of the chain is held up until the draw-bar reaches the end of its traverse. The cam lever D is then released by the bolt A and the pattern chain, which has thus been brought into step, is advanced to start the fashioning.
