Abstract
518,735. Pyrophoric igniters. WISE, F. C., and GREENWOOD, W. Aug. 30, 1938, No. 25384. [Class 75 (iii)] On a slide 15 in a petrol tank body 1 being pressed inwardly a pin 28 on the slide engages a quadrant 27 on the lid 24 carrying the wickcover and causes the lid to fly open after a lug 26 on the lid has passed an equilibrium position in respect 'to springs 23 carried by' a guide element 21. Also, a friction. wheel 4 is rotated in contact with a flint to produce sparks to ignite the wick 3 by a rack 12 connected by a spring 13 to an arm 14 on the slide 15. When the slide 15 is released it is returned by a spring 17 engaging, a guide tube 16 and the rack 12 slips past the pinion 11 of the friction wheel without rotating it. The arm 4 slides between the element 21 and a part of the body formed with a recess 6 enclosing the spring-pressed flint and a recess containing spare flints. Both these recesses are normally covered by a dove-tailed sliding element 7, the movement of which is limited by a screw 10. The movement of the slide is limited by a projection 20 on the element 21 engaging a recess 19 in the slide.
