Abstract

328,172. Rowe, W. H. July 29, 1929. Igniters combined with cigarette cases; pocket igniters, 'frictional. - A combined cigarette case and lighter of the kind in which a case 11, Fig. 1, with a hinged closure 12 is divided into two compartments 14, 15 one of which contains cigarettes while the other contains a lighter 25 comprising a wick, fuel, and friction means for producing a spark, has the lighter side made as a removable self-contained unit with trigger-released mechanism capable of being operated without removal from the case. The lighter comprises a fuel container 26, Fig. 5, having a wick 39<1> and a closure plug 40 recessed to hold a square flint, a flint tube 29 in which the flint is pressed upwards bv a spring, the tube 29 carrying afriction wheel 33 normally connected by a hooked arm 36 with a nib 38 on a spring 27 secured to the fuel container 26 and carrying a press-button 45. The friction wheel carries also a cam 43<1> influenced by a spring 42 so that when the button 45 is pressed and the arm 36 released from the nib 38, the friction wheel rotates and ignites the wick. A snuffer 41 is also carried bv the arm 36. In a modified form the friction wheel is controlled by a spring coiled round its axis.
