Abstract

340,642. Pocket igniters. DEHN, F. B., 103, Kingsway, London.-(Standard Devices, Inc. ; 267, 5th Avenue, New York, U.S.A.) Oct. 11, 1929, No. 30925. [Class 75 (iii).] A spring-pressed slidable snuffer 22 normally closing an opening 18 in the casing 16 is raised by depressing a spring-pressed slidable thumb-piece 42, the snuffer being connected with the thumb-piece by a pivoted lever 30 provided with ratchet teeth 32 co-operating with a ratchet disc on the friction wheel 35 in such a manner that the wheel 35 is rapidly rotated for igniting the wick 21 after a slight initial movement of the snuffer. The thumb-piece and snuffer are provided with slotted lugs carrying pins engaging forks on the lever. The casing is provided with an integral rib 51 having a longitudinal bore receiving the flint 59, plunger 54, spring 56 and screw plug 57. The plunger may be provided with fins engaging grooves in the rib for preventing it coming into contact with the friction wheel or it may be provided with a conical end for engaging a conical seating in the upper end of the bore. The rib may comprise a lateral bored extension with a screw closure plug for containing spare flints. The top plate 48 may be formed with a bored projection for housing a spare flint and serving as a guide for the spring 23.
