Description

April 23., 1957 A. LORIO CIGARETTE LIGHTER Filed July 22, 1954 INVENTOR I @Marzbf United States Patent CIGARETTE LIGHTER Angelo Lorio, Brooklyn, N. Y.
Application July 22, 1954, Serial No. 445,027
1 Claim. (Cl. 67-4.1)
This invention relates to cigarette lighters and carrying means therefor.
The principal object of this invention is the provision of a cigarette lighter carried by a wrist band to facilitate wearing of the lighter on the wrist.
By wearing the lighter on the wrist it is located so that it may be easily and readily used when desired and is not likely to be misplaced.
According to one feature of the invention, the lighter includes a flame guard to safeguard against burning of the hand or wrist.
To the above cited and other ends and with the foregoing and various other novel features and advantages and other objects of my invention as will become more readily apparent as the description proceeds, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more particularly pointed out in the claim hereunto annexed and more fully described and referred to in connection with the accompanying drawings where- Fig. l is a front elevational view showing a lighter associated with a wrist band or bracelet; and
Figs. 2 and 3 are side elevational and plan 'views of a lighter with the wrist band omitted.
Referring now to the drawings more in detail, the invention will be fully described.
A lighter is represented by 2 which has a casing 4. An operating lever 6 is pivoted at 8 between ears 10 extending upwardly from the casing and a sn-ufier 12 is pivoted at 8 which is connected to lever 6 in such a manner that as lever 6 is depressed the snutfer is elevated to expose a wick in a holder 14.
A spring, not shown, in a tube 16 urges the lever 6 upwardly and a corrugated wheel, not shown, is rotated against a flint so that as the lever 6 moves upwardly the wick is exposed and is ignited by a spark from the fiinrt.
A plate 20 is secured to one side of the lighter such as the rear side by any suitable means, such as by soldering, welding or the like.
Said plate has vertically separated cars 22 on opposite vertical edges and at opposite sides of the casing. Pins such as 24 extend between said ears 22 and are arranged so that opposite end members 26 of a bracelet may swivel thereon.
A bracelet is represented by 28 connected to members 26 and may include links which are interconnected for 2,789,424 Patented Apr. 23, 1957 "Ice yielding expansion or a wrist strap may be connected to said members 26. Any form of wrist band, strap or bracelet may be employed that is desired.
A hood or guard 30 is provided which may be a part of or secured to the plate 20.
Said guard is formed to have a back wall 32 and an end wall 34 which extends upwardly from the casing and then inwardly at 36.
The hood 30 is arranged to permit upward movement of the snutler and to lie against the wrist and over the wick to prevent the flame from contacting the wrist.
The hood may be formed from heat resistant material as may be desired so as to protect the wearer of the lighter against injury.
From the foregoing it will be observed that by slipping the wrist band onto the wrist, the lighter is conveniently carried for immediate use when desired. The wrist is protected by the hood associated with the plate on which the lighter is mounted.
The invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the essential characteristics thereof. Hence, the present embodiments are therefore to be considered in all respects merely as being illustrative and not as being restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claim rather than by the foregoing description, and all modifications and variations as fall within the meaning and purview and range of equivalency of the appended claim are therefore intended to be embraced therein.
What it is desired to claim and secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
In a lighter provided with vertical front and rear walls and horizontal bottom and top walls for combination with the wrist bracelet of a wearer, the improvement comprising, a wick holder extending vertically upwardly away from the top wall of the lighter adjacent one end thereof, a pair of spaced ears extending upwardly away from the top wall of the lighter between opposite ends thereof, a snuffer pivotally connected to said ears and having a snutfing end adapted for overlying said wick holder, a rear mounting plate secured to the rear wall of the lighter, the rear wall of the lighter having vertically spaced ears for pivotally connecting to the bracelet, upper portions of said mounting plate at the said one end of the top wall of the lighter having a hood portion extending vertically upwardly from the top wall for disposition over the wrist of the wearer of the bracelet, con nected together vertical and horizontal portions extending inwardly from the hood portion of said mounting plate and cooperating therewith for providing a hood rearwardly and above said snulfer adjacent said wick holder for protection of the wrist of the wearer.
