Abstract
592,647. Pocket igniters. LOWENTHAL, B. May 23, 1945, No. 12921. [Class 75 (iii)] In a pyrophoric lighter, the wick cap 19 is opened by rotating a thumb wheel 9, Fig. 4, adjacent the friction wheel 12, or a thumb wheel 10 attached to it, the two wheels being mounted one above the other for simultaneous operation by the thumb or finger, and the wheel 9 having a pawl 11 which turns an arm 17 about its pivot 18 to release a latch 18<1>, Fig. 1, on the wick cap from its notch in the arm 17. The wick cap is then raised by a spring-pressed ball 25 on a rod 26 and the friction wheel 12 produces sparks from a flint in a horizontal tube in the head 7. After use, the wick-cap may be closed by hand and the latch 18<1> re-engages the arm 17, which is urged by a leaf spring 22.
