Abstract

590,316. Table lighters. DANIELS, A. D. April 18, 1945, No. 9748. [Class 75 (iii)] On a frictional igniter being lifted from the table a coiled spring 33 in its plinth 1 operates a latch bar 25 pivoted at 25a in a tube 26 in the fuel container 2 to unlock the wick cap 17 and allow the wick cap to be turned about the friction wheel spindle 11 by a spring 19. The wick cap carries a pawl engaging ratchet teeth on the friction wheel 9 and consequently rotates the friction wheel in contact with the flint 14 to produce sparks to ignite the wick 8. The lower end of the latch bar 25 is pivoted to the short arm of a bell crank lever 28 pivoted on a pin 29 in the plinth. The long arm of the lever 28 carries a detent 31 projecting through a hole in a cover plate 4. secured to the plinth and operated to restore the bar 25 to its locking position when the igniter is replaced on the table. A pivoted catch plate may be moved beneath the lever 28 to render the igniting mechanism inoperative when desired.
