Abstract
513,538. Drying paper or fabric in long lengths. ECCLES, W., JENNINGS, F., and METROPOLITAN - VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. April 11, 1938, No. 11107. [Class 34 (i)] In the drying of paper, fabric &c. 2, by passing it over drums 3, preferably having reticulated surfaces, in a drying chamber (not shown) the drying chamber is divided into stages, such as six, each containing a number of the drums and the drying air entering at 7 at the discharge end of the chamber is re-heated by heaters 8 to 13 before entering each stage of the drying chamber to substantially the same temperature throughout its passage therethrough. Vanes mounted within the drums cause the air to contact with their surfaces. In an example of the air temperatures, air enters at 7 at about 65‹F. and is heated by heater 8 to about 120‹F., and subsequently by the remaining heaters to the same temperature. The temperature of the air drops in each stage to about 100‹F. and is finally discharged at this temperature nearly saturated.
