Abstract

499,555. Gun-sights. FAIRWEATHER, W. C. (Arado Flugzeugwerke Ges.) March 28, 1938, No. 9400. [Class 92 (ii)] Relates to open sights for guns mounted on fast - moving vehicles such as aircraft, of the kind in which the sight line is corrected for " own Speed" by carrying the foresight 3, on an arm 17 connected with the gun barrel 1, and mounting the rear sight 2 on a crank arm 4 which is maintained parallel to the fore- and after axis of the vehicle during training movements of the gun. According to the invention, the arm 17 is fixed to the gun trunnion 9, and the crank arm is rotated in bearings on an arm 6 extending from the trainable fork 10 of the gun mounting. Further, the crank arm carries a sprocket 14 which is geared to a similar sprocket on the fixed gun support by a chain 15. To correct for enemy speed, the arm 17 may carry a ring foresight 18, Fig. 5, instead of the bead 3.
