Abstract

541,990. Gun mountings. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd., and FRISE, L. G. Feb. 5, 1936, No. 3539. [Class 92 (i)] Relates to aircraft gun turrets in which the gun 16 and gunner's seat 23 are mounted on a pillar 12 offset from the axis of rotation of the turret. According to the invention, the gun and seat are synchronously moved in elevation by a hydraulic jack 17 mounted on a part such as the pillar, which is rotatable with the turret. As shown, the piston rod 18 of a jack mounted on the pillar is connected by a lever 19 and link 20 to a seat arm 21 pivoted to the pillar, this arm being connected by a link 22 with the rear of a gun 16 supported from the pillar by a fork 25. The gun is thus elevated in a vertical slot in a hood 14 rotatable with the pillar 12 when the platform 10 of the turret is trained. The gun may be supported for differential training movement on a shaft 15 rotating within the pillar. Specification 439,739 is referred to.
