Abstract
746,515. Gun mountings. BREVETS AERO-MECANIQUES SOC. ANON. Sept. 15, 1954 [Oct. 15, 1953], No. 28490/53. Class 92. In order to maintain the balance of the mounting of a gun despite loss of weight due to expenditure of ammunition supplied from a magazine k, Fig. 3, a collector m for receiving spent ammunition components (spent cartridges and clips) is so arranged with respect to the trunnion axis x, that it has a mean line of leverage x<SP>2</SP> to this axis effective in the same direction as the mean line of leverage x<SP>1</SP> of the magazine to such axis and x<SP>2</SP> : x<SP>1</SP> are in the same ratio as the weight of a live ammunition component is to the weight of a spent ammunition component. Since in Fig. 3 the trunnion axis intersects the training axis the mounting about the training axis is not effected. In another embodiment shown in Fig. 4 the training axis ZZ is to the rear of the trunnion axis y so that the weight of the gunner is balanced by the weight of the gun and the centre of gravity of the magazine s is on the trunnion axis, but has a moment with respect to the training axis ZZ which is reduced as ammunition is expended. This is compensated by arranging' the collector t for spent ammunition components on the forward end of the turret p, the mean lines of leverage x<SP>4</SP> : : x' to the training axis ZZ being in the same ratio as the weight of a live ammunition component is to the weight of a spent ammunition component.
