Abstract
497,422. Tempering rails. HENRY, R. April 10, 1937, No. 10287. Convention date, Dec. 23, 1936. Addition to 471,573. [Class 72] The apparatus for heating and tempering rails described in the parent Specification is mounted on rollers b which are adapted to move on a light frame a supported on the rails. The apparatus may be reciprocated in the direction of the rail head by an adjustable handle e which is operated by a motor fixed to the frame a. The fish-plate holes y, Fig. 2, are annealed by dome-shaped nozzles h, h<1> which produce a circular jet of flame and are connected to pipes ,f, f<1> supported from the frame a by a clamp o. The pipes f, f<1> are connected to pipes n which are in turn connected to a distributer i to which oxygen and acetylene are led by pipes j<1> and k. The distributer i<1> is operated by a single handle l which can assume three positions, the first for the heating of the rails and holes g, the second for the tempering of the rails, and the third for shutting off the heating gases and tempering fluid.
