Abstract
448,432. Cutting by fusion. LINDE AIR PRODUCTS CO., 30, East 42nd Street, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Wagner, R. L.) Nov. 8, 1934, No. 32182. Convention date, Nov. 29, 1933. [Class 83 (iv)] [See also Groups II and XI] In apparatus for cutting metal by high-temperature heating means, high-temperature heating means is applied locally and progressively along the surfaces thermally affected by the cutting operation. As shown, a cutting blowpipe A is followed up by a pair of blowpipes B, C mounted on the same head and preferably at a short distance therefrom. The blowpipe A is provided with a mixing chamber and with both preheating oxygen and acetylene control valves 11, 12 respectively and with a valve 13 for controlling oxygen. Valves 24, 24<1> and 25, 25<1> control the supply of oxygen and acetylene from supply pipes 21, 22 to mixing devices 26, 27 from which the gas proceeds to nozzles 32, 33. In order to produce a sufficient amount of heat over a large area ahead and behind cutting jet, and at least partly alongisde it, manifold blocks 30, 31 are made arc-shaped and three nozzles are connected to each. In a modification the annealing jets are made convergent.
