Abstract

220,442. Weyman, J. E. July 24, 1923. Atmospheric gas burners. -- An atmospheric burner for coke-oven, producer and like gas comprises a mixing-tube A of rectangular cross-section having a contracted portion A<1> and an angularly-arranged outlet portion A<2>. A hood B of inverted V-shape and having air-inlets C and a gas-supply chamber E is fitted on the upper end of the mixing-tube A. The chamber E terminates in an outlet slot G equal in area to the cross-sectional area of the supply pipe. The outlet from the slot G may be regulated by means of two segments of rollers H provided with gearing I and an operating-handle K. The edges of the segments may be irregular or serrated. Hit- and-miss air regulators D are connected by links Q to levers P on a spindle V. an operating-lever X being secured in position by means of a nut R and quadrant S. The outlet portion A<2> of the burner is provided with a secondary air and flame observation passage M, having slidable regulating-shutters or doors N, through which passage lighted tow or the like may be passed for igniting the burner. The hood B may be replaced by hoods having gas and air inlets of varying sizes.
