Atmospheric gas burners ; flame-spreaders.- A burner for drying moulds by means of blast furnace gases is provided with an envelope b which is adjustable on the perforated burner head a for the purpose of varying the size and form of the flame, an annular space g being provided between the burner and envelope, which is open at e, f for the entrance of air for combustion. In the arrangement shown, the envelope is carried slidably on the burner head by springs d connected to a plate c. When the envelope is moved upwards, the cluster of flames widens, this effect being augmented by a series of perforated baffles i, h surmounted by an unperforated plate k.
