Abstract

447,624. Liquid - fuel burners. WYNDHAM, S. L., and WYNDHAMS LIQUID COAL CO., Ltd., The Exchange, Cardiff. Jan. 16, 1935, No. 1498. [Class 75 (i)] A burner for liquid or colloidal fuel comprises a fuel supply tube 20 fitted with a nozzle 24 formed with a tapered passage through which the fuel is discharged in an annular film past the pear-shaped end of a needle valve 26, a primary air supply tube 16 surrounding the tube 20 fitted with an apertured plate 34 through which the air issues with a swirling movement after passage through inclined ports 37 surrounding the nozzle 24, and a chamber 10 having regulable ports 13 through which secondary air is supplied to the flame. The needle valve 26 is carried by an adjustable cap 28 threaded on a member 29 mounted in the tube 16. The needle valve may be withdrawn to allow the passage of material choking the fuel orifice by means of a knob 32, a spring 31 returning the valve to its adjusted position when the knob is released. The chamber 10 may be formed merely with a diverging outlet or as shown as a double conical member with an internal baffle 15 which causes the secondary air to become heated by travelling first forwardly and then rearwardly before meeting the flame. The burner is secured to the fuel pipe 21 by a clamp 22. The forward end 23 of the tube 16 may be of increased or diminished thickness. A suitable colloidal fuel is described in Specification 410,883, [Group III].
